Sanjoy suggests committee on Chakma-Hajong issue

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: State government and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, (AAPSU) should initiates four-party committee to bring a long lasting solution said MP Takam Sanjoy while addressing the Media here today.

Sanjoy being well associated with the Chakma Hajong issues of the state since his student time as AAPSU leader suggested that two members each from state government, AAPSU, Chakma and Hajong should be formed and if necessary representatives from NGOs should also be inducted in the committee preferably headed by Union Ministry.

MP  further said he would appeal the Prime Minister to intervene in giving final shape to 24,000 crore PM package.

As there is no proper road communication in the interior part of the state, the centre should realize the strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh and speed up the developmental activities in this regard, Sanjoy said.

Meanwhile, expressing his willingness to bridge the gap between the Arunachal Pradesh and other north Eastern States with the rest of the country, Sanjoy assured that along with his MP colleagues from North Eastern State, he would initiates steps in this regard.

He lamenting over less exposure of Arunachal Pradesh further assure to push the issue with the Centre and pursue the Human Resource Development Ministry to include at least 5% or 10% topics on natural resources, art and culture and historical place of Arunachal in the CBSE syllabus.

MP further welcoming the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in the state capital said that despite repeated claims by China over Arunachal Pradesh, the visit of the Dalai Lama was success and welcomed by the people.

He said that he was pleased with His Holiness for clearly indicating that Tawang is not at all a disputed part.

Sanjay further informed that he would  leave for Rome to attend Fifth World Parliamentary Convention being held from November 18 to 19.

The Tibet issue will be properly delivered in the convention, and is expected to be inaugurated by Dalai Lama, adding that discussion on confused statement made by China’s over Arunachal Pradesh would also be made during the convention.

He further said that the China should stop making controversial statement over Arunachal.

 

Anupama Singh calls for innovative teaching skills

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: The children today believe more on the views of the teachers than their parents, said State’s First Lady Anupama Singh, while gracing the valedictory function as the chief guest of the 2nd B. Ed practical based workshop conducted by Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU), Itanagar Regional Centre at Naharlagun today. Singh, an experienced and trained teacher for differently abled children and slow learners stressed that children should be taught about the principles and that too with reasoning.

While recalling her experience of American School, Algiers, Singh emphasized on importance of education and knowledge through scientific approach rather than getting high percentage of marks by just cramming. Today, as a teacher, your approach should be innovating, motivating and facilitating, she added.

Taking the opportunity of interacting with teachers from interior parts of the State, she urged upon them to teach the children on basic sanitation, basic healthcare,

green environment, moral values and good conduct along with the regular teaching.    

Singh, who later gave away the certificates to the trainees, expressed the hope that training will not just be an educational qualification but will instil a true sense of pride in the educationist in the teachers to change the society for better.    While giving a brief on the aims and objectives of the workshop, Mrs. D. Suganthi Swarnalata, one of the resource persons informed that the twelve-day workshop was conducted for in-service teachers to instil efficient and effective teaching methods. The short duration course aspire to make the teachers, good educators, able administrators and counsellors. Programme Coordinator Dr. Reena Tok also spoke on the occasion.

Sharing her experiences during the training programme, Namge Tsoten, from Tawang said, training has enriched us with innovative methods of teaching.

Pramod Kumar and Tarangjeet Tiwari also expressed the same view. Regional Director of the centre Dr. Neethirajan informed that for the uplift of the general mass, IGNOU is acting as a nodal agency by conducting various entrepreneurship development programmes.    Earlier, the State’s First Lady visited the stalls displaying the IGNOU study materials, teaching apparatus and equipments and photography exhibition portraying glimpses of activities of the centre. Itanagar prepare to receive Dalai Lama

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama would arrive in state Capital on Saturday from Bomdila on the last leg of a weeklong visit to Arunachal. He would reach Itanagar before noon and would be received by the Chief Minister and others with a traditional welcome. During the first of his stay in Itanagar, he would address the citizens at Banquet Hall followed by discourse at Thupten Gatsalling Gonpa and Theravada Bodh Vihar.

His Holiness has already visited Tawang, Bomdila and Dirang where the devotees of the state and neighbouring Bhutan gave him tumultuous welcome.

The revered Lama would leave Itanagar on Sunday.

Hectic preparations are on in the Capital to accord a befitting welcome and people from different parts of the state have already arrived to catch a glimpse of the Dalai Lama.

 

Young officer dies in road accident

SEPPA, Nov 13: Thanglang Tangha, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) posted at Bana in East Kameng died following a tragic motorcycle accident here yesterday.

Lt Thanglang, lost control of his bike resulting in severe injuries as he was returning to Seppa from Petrol depot.

A friend who was pillion riding managed to hail an auto rickshaw and took Tangha to District Hospital, Seppa. Despite all efforts, the Doctors could not save his life.

An officer of APCS 2009 batch, 27 years old Tangha was the son of Timlang Tangha, an Ex-serviceman.  

His body has been sent back to Changlang escorted by staffs of ICDS, Bana.

The District Administration led by Pige Ligu has expressed deep condolence over the tragic accident.

A shocked CoSAAP, East Kameng Unit has expressed deep condolence and  prayed for eternal peace to departed soul. (DIPRO)

 

Union moves against use of tobacco and liquor

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Nocte Students’ Union took up the cudgel to imbibe a sense of discipline and create awareness on healthy living in the society.

Observing the serious consequences of the use of tobacco and illegal selling of  liquors in the minor shops (Ghumtis),   the Nocte Students’ Union  in its meeting held recently adopted resolutions and accordingly, its executive members drew the attention of the then Tirap DC Ankur Garg towards the bad effect of tobacco products.  Garg, who earned name and fame as an able administrator, issued order prohibiting the selling of tobacco products and liquor illegally.

The district administration did its job; but respond was not encouraging.

 The students union observed that some of the shopkeepers are not adhering strictly to the administrative order.  Armed with Govt order the students’ body jumped into action and raided shops and seized pouches and packets of tobacco products such as pan masala, gutka besides the illegal liquors from the unauthorized shops and handed them over to police.

Recently similar raid was conducted and large numbers of banned tobacco products were seized.

 

Welly calls for all round development of East Kameng

Seppa, Nov 13:   In his maiden tour to East Kameng after assuming the charges as Water Resources Development Minister, Atum Welly has emphasized on all round development of the district. He said this in a Coordination meeting with DC, SP, legislators and all Heads of Department at circuit house Seppa on Nov 12 last.

Welly said Education and Health would be his priority sector besides others for all round development of the district. He also assured to give his cooperation to the officers in pursuing scheme submitted by the HODs of the various departments.

While expressing his concern over the lack of communication between the leaders and the officers, Welly assured that he would try his level best to mitigate all the lapses.

SP Tume Amo emphasized on the need of strengthening the police force and separate accommodation among others.

Legislators Tapuk Taku, Karya Bagang and Tani Loffa also spoke.

Taku who represents  Seppa main township asked all the HODs to give a copy of the draft proposal and the  detailed report of various scheme undertaken by them.

All the speakers were unanimous on the issues like improvement of Seppa township road, electricity, education, health and sanitation, town planning, law and order problem besides other sectors like agriculture, horticulture .

Minister along with three legislators were accorded a warm welcome by  all the Govt. officials led by DC Pige Ligu at Circuit house on Nov 11. (DIPRO)

 

NESO seeks PM’s intervention on attack on NE people

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Expressing serious concern over atrocities against the students of North Eastern region  in National capital, the North East Students’ Organization (NESO) has  appealed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene and direct  appropriate authorities to take up effective measures for social, mental and physical security to the people of the North East India.

In a memorandum to Prime Minister, NESO chairman Dr Samujjwal Bhattacharjee and secretary general  Gumjum Haider resented that “there has been frequent unwanted incidents of atrocities, molestations, assaults on the students of North East region in New Delhi. The situation has become so intense and serious that students from this region have been murdered recently in the Munirka area of the national capital.

In spite of assurance from the Delhi government and police forces and vilification by the Govt at different levels, the North East communities continue to suffer shock, and panic as unabated attack and assault continue.

Stating that  a good number of students from NE region have to migrate to other parts of the country for availing better educational and career opportunities and a considerable number of them are studying in and around Delhi,

the NESO said  Manmohan Singh is not only the prime minister but the  representative of North East also. Therefore, he is the right leader and personality to intervene for giving justice to the North East who are facing injustice in National Capital.

NESO also submitted memoranda to Union Home Minister,  DoNER Minister , Delhi Chief Minister and union home secretary and appealed them to take step for security and safety of the NE people.

NESO has expressed its determination to protect the people of the North East anywhere in the world, Haider said and added that the organization would take appropriate steps to find out a proper solution to the problem after its executive council meeting which is scheduled to be held on the 1st week of December at Guwahati.

 

AOA demands implementation of school games activities

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has demanded the authorities concerned to implement school games activities under School Games Federation of India within this fiscal year.

Emphasizing the need of games and sports at school level, AOA, in a release, said that Arunachal government has not given due importance on sporting activities for which the state has been lagging far behind in sports compared to some of its neighbouring states like Manipur, Assam and  Mizoram.

AOA said that the School Games which include different sporting events have already been implemented in rest of the NE states accept Arunachal Pradesh.

Whereas games and sports have become an essential part of education, AOA hoped the authorities concerned, especially the director of sports and youth affairs would join hand with education department in implementing all such games and sports related policies and programmes successfully for the betterment of the student community.

Meanwhile AOA lauded the efforts of director of school education T Taloh, joint director H Tatung and sports programmer of DSE L Sokun Singh for bringing back Subroto Mukherjee Cup to the state after a long gap of 40-50 years.

 

ITBP, WII join hands for Rhododendron conservation in Tawang

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Indo Tibetan Border Police (4th Battalion, ITBP) and an international not for profit society, Winrock International India (WII) have joined hands to establish enterprise based conservation program aimed at Rhododendron conservation in Sakpret village of Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

The project is jointly funded by the Civic Action Plan (CAP) of ITBP and Department of Science and Technology (DST), through Winrock International India.

The joint program costing around Rs 24 lakhs will establish a Rhododendron squash-processing centre along with an arboretum in the village.

The organization is expecting to produce 5000 litres of squash in the upcoming Rhododendron flowering season (January-March) which can result in an overall benefit of nearly 2 lakhs per annum to the villagers.   

Chombay applauded the noble work initiated by the ITBP and NGO Winrock Interenational India (WII) by involving villagers in self sustainable avenues. Sangey Norbu also spoke on the occasion.

Even though Rhododendron arboreum (the species which is used for squash preparation) is distributed throughout the medium altitudes of Himalayas (1600-2400m mls), in Arunachal Pradesh its consumption as firewood is very high. The high calorific value of Rhododendron arboreum makes it the preferred fire wood in the villages.  By helping the villagers in generating an alternative livelihood from  Rhododendron arboreum (through squash production), the agencies are expecting conservation of the species in the community forest areas of the village. The Program Officers of WII mentioned that the organization will continue working with the villagers till the end of 2011 to train the villagers in sustainable harvesting, marketing and also providing support to establish Rhododendron based eco-tourism in the village.

The joint program has been initiated under the guidance and support provided by ITBP Frontier Inspector General, Daljeet Singh.

 ITBP has constructed a building of 54 sq m in the village through their CAP fund.

The villagers were engaged for the labour work for this construction so that the CAP provides monetary support to the villagers along with a building for the establishment of a sustainable business.

WII has provided the machines and has two full time staff in the village. Out of these two, one is a local community member.

J.P. Therratil, Commandant 4th Battalion ITBP distributed the wages to the villagers of Sakpret who were engaged in the construction of the building yesterday at a gathering in the village.

Yuva Arunachal Secretary General Chombay, ZPM Lumla Sangey Norbu, Gaon Bura Dorjee Tashi Monalisa Sen and K.M. Jayahari (Program Officers of WII) were present on the occasion along with the entire village.

Therratil said that out of the 54 families in the village, 38 families have the direct benefit from the CAP in the form of wages at an average of Rs 2000/- per family.

Program staff of WII also mentioned that the logistic support of ITBP has ensured smooth and successful implementation of Winrock’s DST supported project.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has extended his best wishes to the people of the nation particularly the children on the auspicious occasion of Children’s Day. In his message, he recalled Pandit Nehru’s special love for the children who in turn called him Chacha Nehru.

He hoped that the occasion would give new boost and inspiration to the children for striving and contributing immensely for nation building. Khandu urged upon the mass in general to live up to the aspiration and principles laid down by our great leader.

NAGAHRLAGUN, Nov 13:  Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy today called upon the students to equip themselves with the vast knowledge being provided through modern science and technology  in order to shine in this competitive world.

Inaugurating the 30th College week celebration of the Dera Natung Govt as chief guest today Sanjoy highlighting on the changing phases of the education and institutes in our state,  said “it is not very welcoming’.

Enlightening  the students on the need of education and its importance on building the nation and  state the MP promised to take up the demand for construction of concrete dias and sitting gallery around the college playground with the capacity of 2000 audiences.

Without pointing out the attack on NE people in National capital,  the MP  said that he would try his level  best to clear the misconception of other state of the country about people of Northeast states.

Regarding the repeated Chinese claim over Arunachal Pradesh and Indo-China border row,  Sanjoy in a clear term said that  Arunachal Pradesh is not disputed area.

The Guest of Honour and ANSU president Niglar Veo appealed the MP to consider the demands raised by the college students.  Niglar, however called upon  both the students and teachers to work together to run the college successfully.

Earlier, DNGC principal Tomar Ete  encouraged the students to maintain the sprit of true sportman throughout the week long celebration.

Nabum Tuna, general secretary, Students Union  submitted a Memorandum  to the MP  which include demands for   construction of concrete dias and sitting gallery around the college playground with the capacity of 2000 audiences and concrete boundary wall around the Girls hostel for the safety and security of the students.

There was also March Past by the students which was divided into 4 houses- Delhi, Mumbai, Chenni and Kolkata besides other programmes.  Large number of students and teachers attended the inaugural function.  DIPR

 

Erratic mobile phone service irks Union

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Expressing its strong resentment over poor mobile phone service in East Kameng, the All East Kameng Students’ Union (AEKSU) has demanded the authorities concerned of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to take immediate corrective measures to improve service within December.

AEKSU claimed that the BSNL has been collecting monthly rent from every subscriber in the district  without providing proper service. Since the launching of mobile service by BSNL in the district, subscribers have been experiencing poor mobile service or no service thereby piling up the agony of the users, AEKSU claimed and threatened to take legal recourse and launch democratic movement by surrendering BSNL SIM cards to the service provider if the irritating mobile service was not improved within a month.

 

World Sunday School Day

ITANAGAR, Nov.13:  The Sunday School Department of B.N complex Baptist Church, Daporijo recently celebrated World Sunday School Day. Program was held under the chairmanship of school superintendent Magam Dugi. Various speakers who spoke on the occasion believed that children are the future leader of state and taught them the importance of maintaining spiritual and mental balance.

ROING, Nov 13: The Idu Mishmi Christian community of Roing Township and the followers of Baptist denomination have expressed gratitude to the AO Mission Dimapur for bringing up the church up to the satisfaction of the Idu Mishmi Baptist Keba Kumo Embo (IMBKKE).

Extending sincere thanks to the AO Mission for its generosity, the IMBKK president Apibu Pulu said, ‘ the Mission had been extending all possible help for the last 10 years for the well-establishment of the church’.  

IMBKK   secretary Dina Linggi also appreciated the Mission for its charitable gesture and bringing up the church independently.

 

DoNER reviews security of NE people in Delhi

ITANGAR, Nov 13: In the context of recent incidents of physical violence reported in Delhi against students/youth hailing from North Eastern (NE) States, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) took up the matter with Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police to ascertain the steps taken by them to protect the safety and security of North Eastern (NE) students in Delhi.

The Commissioner of Delhi Police on 15.10.2009 has issued a standing order containing guidelines and steps to be taken for tackling the problem faced by students and others from NE States in Delhi which include A ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ in respect of crime against women, including those hailing from NE States.

The Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Minister of Mines, B.K Handique expressing his serious concern over these incidents has desired that proactive steps be taken immediately to ensure safety and security of the students particularly the girl students from NE States in Delhi. He has also written to Home Minister requesting him to examine the pattern of such crimes against NE States students and devise a mechanism to improve the security environment for them and also to associate Ministry of DoNER for any liaison or assistance in this regard so that the people hailing from NE Region feel part of society in Delhi/NCR.   

 The Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Jayati Chandra vide her D.O. letter dated 6th November 2009 has also requested the Chief Secretaries of the North Eastern States requesting them to direct the RC of the respective state in Delhi to collect details of people from the NE State and maintain a directory thereof.

A Cell headed by Joint Secretary, Ministry of DoNER and consisting of the RCs of the eight NE States, a Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary of Ministry of DoNER has been set up in the ministry to review the action taken in this regard.

 

ASHAs Training under way at Seppa

Seppa, Nov 13:  The 2nd Module training of Accredited Society Health Activities (ASHAs) under NRHM being organized by District Health society, Seppa, was held at Officer club Seppa from Nov 11-13.

The three-day training imparted the necessary skills to tackle the intricacies and the complexity involved in the delivery of the baby.

The Dos and Don’ts during the pregnancy period, the concept of ante, neo and the post natal care were taught to the trainees so that they could attend the delivery in the remote place where there are no doctors, informed DRCHO, Dr. Kaya Lapung.

Besides, the trainees were taught about the way to fight the deadly disease like diarrhoea and malaria, which are prevalent in the district.  (DIPRO)

 

Public Information Campaign Generates Enthusiasm at Banderdewa

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Various departments of the government have been working in close cooperation with the panchayat for implementing the developmental schemes of the centre, observed the speakers at the Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman at Banderdeva in Papum Pare. On the third day of the Campaign in the district organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Song and Drama Division, a day long special publicity programme was held at Banderdewa today.

This awareness programme, generated much enthusiasm among the local people, who were provided with details of various centrally sponsored schemes like NREGA, NRHM, Rural Water Supply, SSA, Mid Day Meal Scheme, PMGSY and RTI.

Speaking on the occasion Yame Higio , Circle Officer ,Banderdewa  said that people should come forward to take advantage of the welfare schemes of the govt. She observed that transparency has to be maintained while preparing the BPL list.  She appreciated the role of media units of IB Ministry in organizing this multimedia campaign at the grassroot level.

K. Chapo , Member Anchal Samiiti, Banderdewa said that schemes under Bharat Nirman are set to bring in a qualitative change in the overall standard of life of the common people. Giving details of various schemes under NRHM ,NREGA ,SSA and Mid Day Meal , Chako informed that progress of these schemes is being closely monitored at the appropriate level. In this context, he also said that govt. has been sincere in ensuring food security, particularly for the poor.   

The artists of the Song and Drama Division presented impressive programmes to alert people against the HIV AIDS and Influenza H1N1 virus. The Directorate of Field Publicity also organized a quiz contest and people especially students took active part in it. The concluding programme of 4-day campaign will be held at Multipurpose Cultural Complex at Kimin tomorrow.

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Education Minister Bosiram Siram and MLA Kumsi Sidisow would attend as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour in the 6th General Conference Cum Election of All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) at government Secondary School, Sagalee on November 21.

 

Mithi stresses on quality works

ROING, Nov 13:  Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi  urged the implementing agencies to improve the quality of work and submit fund utilization certificates, work completion report on time for effective implementation of the MPLAD fund. He, however, appreciated the district administration, which is the nodal agency  for  implementation of  the PMLAD fund.  Mithi was addressing a review meeting  of the  implementation of the developmental schemes under MPLAD   held under the Deputy Commissioner Y W Ringu as chair at Roing on Nov 9.

Stressing the need of completion of the each MPLAD  scheme  withing the stipulated time, Ringu emphasized of videography or still photography during and after the work completion.

Earlier, EAC cum district planning officer in-charge M Pertin explained details of the PMLAD fund received and implementation of developmental schemes under MP fund.

 

Road Committee

ITANAGAR,  Nov 13: A road committee, namely CRF Road Coordination Committee (CRFBRCC) was formed at Balijan yesterday with formal approval from Doimukh MLA with Hollongi ex-ASM Kara Tazing as Chairman, Bullet Yowa as member secretary and Balijan ZPM Kabak Takam as advisor.

Meanwhile, Doimukh MLA Nabam Rebia has suggested the newly formed committee to oversee the construction of the centrally funded road from Balijan to Hollongi to ensure quality. He also asked the committee members to take initiative in protecting and preserving forest resources for the control of global warming, according to CRFBRCC release.

 

ACCKWS celebrates  foundation day

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: All Capital Complex Kara Welfare Society (ACCKWS) yesterday celebrated its foundation day by holdong discussion on issues related to education, political and socio-economic development of the society.

It also condoled the death of one of its members and teacher Tadok Kulo and observed one silence as a mark of respect to late Kulo and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

 

AdiSU lauds AAPSU

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Condemning the Chinese repeated claim over Arunachal Pradesh, Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) today fully endorsed the AAPSU’s campaign to garner support  of national political leaders  irrespective of political parties towards its movement against the  Chinese claim over Arunachal.

The apex students body succeeded to draw the attention of the national  leaders towards this serious border issue, the union said and urged the state Govt take the issue with Centre seriously.

ITANAGAR, Nov 13: Taga Param has been appointed as Conference Chairman of 4th General Conference cum Election of Topo Eshe Students’ Welfare Association (TESWA).

Seminar on food processing

ITANAGAR,  Nov.13:  North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), a government of India enterprise under ministry of DoNER organized a one-day seminar on Friday, which was inaugurated by Honchun Ngandam, Horticulture minister. The one day seminar saw deliberation on capacity building program for small and medium enterprises  in food processing in North Eastern region and “How to Manage Food Business Enterprises for Better Market Access?”
